Shipwreck - High and Dry

Posted by Graham Russon (Cape Town, South Africa) on 5 August 2008 in Transportation and Portfolio.

The Seawin Saphire in coming to the rescue of Weskus1, hit a reef and was grounded by the high swells.

The pipe in the foreground is from disaster management crews, that were pumping all oil and fuel out of the boats, to avoid ecological damage.

An excerpt from a local newspaper;

Weskus 1 chief engineer Ebrahim Solomon, 31, said: "I'm still in shock."

"How am I going to get off?" was what had run through his mind.
He had jumped into the "ice-cold" water and it had scared him, because it looked as if the boat was going to capsize, he said with a shiver.

The accident was "part of the job" and "something to expect", but he wouldn't be getting on another boat soon, said Solomon.
