Shipwreck - Conferring

Posted by Graham Russon (Cape Town, South Africa) on 6 August 2008 in Transportation and Portfolio.

"I love it when a plan comes together" Quite a detailed and involved salvage plan has swung into action.

First step was to ensure that all pollutants that could harm the environment were removed from the ships, this was completed on Sunday. In addition 11 tons of Tuna and 5 tons of frozen bait were removed from Seawin.

Towing points were welded onto to Seawin on Sunday. A special towing point is being manufactured in Cape Town and should be fitted onto Weskus 1 by Tuesday.

Sand will be dug out from both boats allowing water to flow around them. Then when the conditions are right, especially the high tide, a tug boat will pull them back into the sea.

I'm watching the news closely and planning to sneak out when the salvage takes place.

In the background of this picture you can make our Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.
