Bainskloof Rocks

Was a marvelous day so we headed of to the town of Wellington and had a picnic at Bainskloof pass.

Today was experimental and I explicitly forbade myself to shoot in any of the auto modes. In addition shot all my pics in RAW (also new for me). I've had about 50% success rate, with this being one of the better shots.

I'm starting to experiment with RAW myself. I really like the way you use the foreground in many of your shots. This is another example.

As it is a Raw picture you might be able to recover the details in the highlights on the rocks. This is a main avantage of shooting in Raw in places with high contrast like here. Very quiet place.

@dj.tigersprout: Thanks DJ. I did stick my big toe in for 2 seconds and then let it thaw out in the sun. Its pretty cold (not arctic cold), this time of the year. We will swim there in summer

Once you get used to shooting in manual, it will be difficult to go back to the other modes...same goes for shooting in RAW.

Fantastic image...I especially like the foreground and how the water leads your eye out into the rest of the image. Great job!

Nice shot with good use of foreground and great capture of color there. I might tone down the rocks in the back a little; they seem a little overwhelming and take away from the deep blues in the foreground. Nice work.

Love the way you present those imposing rocks and their reflections, Graham. RAW may mean a little more work at times, but it can get you out of trouble where a jpeg can't.
