Geese Teeth

Posted by Graham Russon (Cape Town, South Africa) on 11 September 2008 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

After yesterday's post, I was asked several times, "do geese have teeth?". Not that I know of, but in these closeup it sure looks like it. So I consulted the experts on Google and came up with this answer:

Lamellae are the serrations found on the bills of ducks and geese that
look like teeth. They are used to help cut and rip grasses and weeds
as well as to hold insects or fish.

So not only a great hobby, but we also get to learn new things.
