Breakfast Lost

Posted by Graham Russon (Cape Town, South Africa) on 16 September 2008 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

The other morning a young pigeon flew into our bedroom window, and then huddled under a pot plant in the courtyard. A few minutes later this guy appeared, and sat on the wall eying out his escaped breakfast. I shot this through the closed bedroom window.

I don't know what kind of bird it is (mom any ideas?). Perhaps a peregrine or falcon. Never seen one like this in the suburbs. I opened the window for a better shot, and he flew off. My cat then went to investigate its new potential breakfast, and the pigeon flew off - unscathed but pretty shook up.
