Drakensberg - Photography Nirvana

Posted by Graham Russon (Cape Town, South Africa) on 15 April 2009 in Landscape & Rural.

We deceided to have a family reunion and the chosen venue was the Alpine Heath Resort in the Northern Drakensberg. It was an incredible weekend, especially to be with family, some who I haven't seen in years.

From a photography perspective, everywhere was a photo waiting to happen. This series will show off and incredible part of our country.

This shot was from the convention centre and gymnasium.

We flew to Johannesburg from Cape Town (1264 km) which took 2 hours. From there we hired a car and drove to the resort in the Northern drakensberg (386.02 km), which took 4 hours.

The Drakensberg (Afrikaans: "Dragon's Mountain") is the highest mountain range in Southern Africa, rising to 3,482 metres (11,420 ft) in height.
